This Blithewold Mansion wedding was designed as a garden party with Italian influence woven throughout. From the beginning, we wanted it to feel bold and romantic, grounded in details that reflected our story. The pastel palette and custom wine window set the tone for a celebration that unfolded with intention.
Set along the water in Bristol, Rhode Island, Blithewold Mansion offered an incredible backdrop. The gardens were open and vibrant in early October. Soft light filtered through the trees. Crisp air signaled the shift in season. Against that setting, we introduced lilac and chartreuse, softened with peach, and carried those tones through every space.
As both the bride and a Rhode Island wedding planner, I approached the design with clarity. Pretty was not enough. Every color choice needed direction. Every detail had to earn its place. From the moment guests stepped onto the lawn, the space needed to reflect who we are.
At Carissa Corsi Events, I design full wedding weekends where every choice connects, and the experience feels cohesive from start to finish. A Pastel Fall Palette That Broke the Rules
Fall weddings often lean dark and moody. Beautiful, yes. But not us.
For our Blithewold Mansion wedding, we chose lilac and chartreuse as our anchor colors. Both brought energy and personality. Soft peach added warmth and balance, creating a three-tone combination that felt fresh for October.
This palette shaped the entire design:
- Florals echoed the same tonal mix
- Linens and signage reinforced it
- Stationery carried it onto paper
- The custom dance floor repeated it underfoot
Nothing was accidental. Every surface spoke the same visual language. From the first step inside, guests understood the atmosphere we were creating.

An Italian Garden Party in Rhode Island
Anthony and I fell in love with Italy on our first trip to Florence. Slow mornings. Corner café bars. Hidden wine windows. The way people linger without rushing. So we asked ourselves how to bring that energy to a Blithewold Mansion wedding.
We designed a custom wine window for Cantina de Forloney to anchor the cocktail hour. Guests ordered Aperol spritzes through the window, each served with a stir stick illustrated with my own hand. Even the cocktail napkins featured sketches of our puppies. Personal touches were woven into every interaction.
Inside the tent, we built an L-shaped bar with café-style seating. Instead of grabbing a drink and walking away, guests took a seat, ordered another round, and settled in. The bar became a destination rather than a pit stop.

Ceremony at Our Blithewold Mansion Wedding
The ceremony took place in the Blithewold Mansion gardens. The landscape did most of the work for us. Rather than building something heavy, we kept the florals organic and full of movement. Soft blooms and natural greenery framed the aisle and blended into the surroundings instead of overpowering them.
Right before I walked down the aisle, I surprised Anthony by singing a line from “Dibs” by Kelsea Ballerini. It is a song I have always sung to him. His reaction said everything. Then I walked down the aisle to “Simply the Best” by Noah Reid. It was emotional and strong at the same time.

Fashion That Felt True
I wore a Martina Liana gown with a romantic corset bodice and soft balloon sleeves. It balanced structure with whimsy, and the train moved beautifully across the lawn at our Blithewold Mansion wedding.
I paired it with Gucci shoes, David Yurman jewelry, and Gucci perfume. Beauty was natural glam with glowing skin, neutral tones, and a soft half-up hairstyle.
Anthony chose a classic black tuxedo, Gucci loafers, and a Movado watch. His look brought structure and balance to the overall design’s softness.
The bridesmaids wore mismatched pastel dresses in yellow, orange, lilac, green, and pink. Each silhouette and texture was different, yet everything worked together.
Each bridesmaid carried a monochromatic bouquet in a color that contrasted with her dress. Lilac florals paired with peach fabric. Soft orange blooms against green gowns. That contrast added dimension and made the group feel curated rather than coordinated.
The groomsmen wore tailored black tuxedos, grounding the palette and anchoring the fashion story with clean structure.

A Tented Reception Full of Pattern and Depth
Inside the tent, we built the design from the ground up. The dance floor featured a botanical motif pulled directly from our envelope liner. That same pattern appeared again in the sculptural drum shades overhead, creating a clear visual thread from floor to ceiling.
Mixed linens introduced texture and contrast. Taper candles added warmth. Fruit-forward florals brought shape and movement.
The paper details continued the story. Trifold menus rested at each place setting, and espresso martini place cards connected dinner to the late-night surprise on the dance floor. Rather than relying on one dramatic installation, the design unfolded through continuity.

Food and Drink as Part of the Design
Food played a central role in the overall experience. During cocktail hour, six passed appetizers circulated through the garden alongside red and white wine service. Aperol spritzes flowed from the wine window, reinforcing the theme without feeling forced.
Dinner unfolded in courses. Burrata salad came first, followed by an intermezzo pasta course. Guests selected from three entrées while wine was poured tableside throughout the evening. The pacing encouraged conversation and connection.
At every setting, my grandmother’s homemade Italian cookies waited. That gesture brought family history directly to the table.
Later in the evening, espresso martinis were passed on the dance floor, tying back to the printed menus from dinner. A mini dessert display, espresso cart, and modern rectangular cutting cake completed the evening. Clean lines and minimal decoration allowed the shape to stand out against the organic florals.

Music That Told Our Story
Music shaped the energy of the entire day. Early in the evening, I invited my mom, sister, aunt, and cousin onto the dance floor to honor my grandmother with “There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill. It was one of the most meaningful moments of the night and set the tone for what followed.
After that, my dad and I shared an upbeat dance that kept the mood light and joyful. Our wedding party walked in to the instrumental version of “IFLY” by Bazzi, and later we shared our first dance to the full version. It felt modern and completely ours.

What Made This Blithewold Mansion Wedding Different
This wedding was not defined by one dramatic installation. It came together through thoughtful decisions:
- A wine window inspired by our first trip to Florence
- Custom-illustrated stir sticks woven into the cocktail hour
- Café-style seating that encouraged guests to linger
- Florals layered with grapes, citrus, and artichokes
- A botanical motif repeated from the envelope liner to the dance floor to the drum shades
- Trifold menus and espresso martini place cards linking dinner to dancing
- My grandmother’s Italian cookies were placed at every seat
Each choice reinforced the next. The result was cohesive, personal, and unmistakably ours. Blithewold Mansion provided the setting. We shaped the atmosphere.
